Gracias a Dios
Even though Thanksgiving is officially over, it's never too late to be grateful, especially for the music.

Welcome to Beat Latino!

Welcome! Please share your comments in either Spanish or English, Spanglish is fine too. The "why" of this blog is best explained by Mr. Vonnegut who said: "all he needed for proof of the existence of God was the music" (Blues for America). Or as the proverb displayed in the walls of the Albaycín in Granada, Spain, states: "if you silence the singer, all life is silenced". My particular love is latin/latino music. Bienvenidos!

Latin boogaloo, Colombia style

Bugalú!!!!! An interlude in the late sixties, lasting only perhaps three years in the U.S., that marked one of the first and most vibrant collaborations between African American and Latino musicians in Harlem. However, Colombia has a long and fruitful tradition of bugalú. Here's a recent performance by La 33, from Bogotá Colombia.

Mercedes Sosa

Mercedes has not been in good health. There was a moment in Mercedes' June 2007 concert in Chicago where to the panicked concern of the assistants who had helped her on stage, she stood up to dance. Here's a chacarera titled "Just for dancing" in the version by Los Nocheros, also available in Mercedes's latest album. Gracias, Mercedes.
